Spoiler Alert... Kind of...The basic story is that Rachael, the accountant werewolf cousin of Michael Wyndham, goes to St. Paul to watch over Betsy, the vampire queen, as a favor to her cousin. She doesn't want to go but she loves her cousin so off she goes. Rachael is the typical Mary Janice Davidson female, one part lovable, the rest aggressive anti-social Bi***. She is sarcastic and prickly and men fall all over themselves until they meet her. A few days into her stay she meets Gregory, a nerdy fanboy accountant who is best friends with the biggest baddest Vampire slayer around Boo. He is in town to check out the queen and see if Boo needs to take her down. they meet fall in love and talk dirty accounting terms. that is basically the book. They reference the murders going on and their various reasons for being there, but ultimately that is all there is to the book.

And now can someone explain to me how Mark is all of a sudden a Zombie and Antonia and Garret are dead again. In "Undead and Undermined" Mark kills himself and Betsy vows to to bring him back and Betsy goes with her sister and Garret to confront the Devil to get Antonia back and they do. So what the hell happened between then and now! I mean did they sacrifice Garrett and Antonia to make Mark a reasonable Zombie. If I had not spent the last couple years invested in the "Undead" series despite the past 4 books I would quit the series and Davidson's books entirely.

This was another installment in the Wyndham Werewolves series by Mary Janice Davidson. It again involves the interaction between Vampire Queen Betsy and her Wyndham werewolf representative. The humour is well done and only adds to the story as the replacement werewolf arrives in Minneapolis and meets a vampire slayer who is trying to secretly spy on Betsy and her household. I am looking forward to revisiting this situation in the next novel. A great read.
I found myself laughing out loud as I read this book, whether I was sitting at home or in a waiting room or restaurant. The thought process of the likeable geeky guy has a ring of authenticity and is absolutely hysterical. I read a few sequences out loud to my Aspie son, and even he laughed and appreciated the viewpoint. You may get a bit more out of the side plots if you are familiar with the Queen Betsy books, but this book can stand alone and is well worth reading.
I would have rated this 3.5 but I didn't have that option and my fondness for the author led me to round up. This book is a good example of what MaryJanice Davidson does best and also where she struggles the most. Those who are a fan of her other work will be happy to note that Queen Betsy and her gang are present in this book, and for those of you upset by the actions of one of the main characters in her book Undead and Undermined will be happy to note his appearance in this book. The male lead in this story, I would struggle to call him the hero, is funny, quirky and I found myself really enjoying the rambling of his thoughts. This is an example of what MaryJanice Davidson does really well, creating silly, quiky, and enduring character that we end up liking and caring for almost despite ourselves. I also found myself liking the heroine but felt she was not as three dementional as the male lead. Again, this book showcases some of the problems that have plagued the queen Betsy series and that is a strong begining and middle with a rushed ending that has the reader struggling to connect the dots in time for the book conclusion. But I have come to expect this and will assume that some of the things that were not answered or left unfinished in this book will be answered in the upcoming Queen Betsy book, as is custom with MaryJanice's style. Also, while this book is listed as being apart of the werewolf series, I think that readers who are unfamiliar with the Queen Betsy series will struggle with this one if they have only read the other werewolf books. I think this book would have been a lot less enjoyable for me as a reader if I was reading it as a stand alone novel and not as a part of both the Wyndom Werewold and Queen Betsy series.
MayJanice Davidson is so much fun to read!!! I laughed out loud through the whole book. She writes neurotic folks with a light hand and you really care about them and can recognize all those same folks in your life (except they aren't as funny). Highly recommend
I finished Wolf at the Door and it was close to as funny as some of the middle Queen betsy books and had a good (not great) ending but there was a HEA. I would have to give it 4 Stars no more no less, it was entertaining and moved nicely once you got about 5-6 chapters into the book. Started out a bit confusing I thought but I would recommend it for anyone who would like a good light read, but I would tend to say read Derik's Bane (Wyndham Werewolf) first, it is closer to a 5 star effort. This is not her finest work but it is better than any of the last 3 Queen Betsy books and I do recommend it.
Wolf at the Door was another entertaining romp from MaryJanice Davidson. She has a knack for creating quirky characters and then dropping them in absurd situations. Rachael is a werewolf and an accountant. She is ordered by her cousin Michael, head of the Wyndham Pack, to move to St. Paul and keep watch over Queen Betsy and the other vampires. Rachael has never lived anywhere but Cape Cod and is reluctant. She is even more reluctant when a series of murders starts happening in St. Paul. The victims are people that she was scheduled to meet as possible clients. It looks like someone wants to sow discord between the werewolves and the vampires.

Edward is a human geek who has come to St. Paul to learn more about Queen Betsy in order to call in his vampire slayer roommate to kill her. Edward is also an accountant. Rachael and Edward meet and, in their mutually geeky ways, fall in love.

The plot isn't the main point here. What matters are the quirky characters - a vampire queen hooked on smoothies and fancy shoes; a werewolf accountant; a human accountant who wants everything to be like his geeky fantasies.

This one was just fun to read!
