I'm sorry but I will always and FOREVER love this book. I read the "3% 1 star reviews", and they were obviously from people that (1.) didn't know/didn't care/are too cool to admit that it's a teen/young adult book... Or (2.) just people in general who suck and can't appreciate a good revenge/moral story. I LITERALLY read this book in 5th grade (which for me was 1994-1995) and I STILL read this book every couple of years for nostalgic purposes AND because I still secretly hope they will make a movie or a sequel. It is also a very good story, as long as you aren't expecting a twilight type romance (not every story has to have a LOVE story) Personally, the whole "vampire/human love story" has become quite old, and I think the world could use some dragon sarcasm in their life. Maybe I just relate because I'm such a sarcastic person... Or MAYBE I'm sarcastic because I LOVED this book so much on 5th-7th grade. That is definitely a very influential age... So it's quite possible that this book has shaped me into the sarcastic, closet fiction/fantasy young adult novel loving reader that I am today ;) All I know, is that this book has a MUCH more original plot than any other young adult book that's out there.... And I love the trendy young adult books!

Awesome! Great service, and product!
Still love this book, even as a 27 year old. Wish there were more of it's genre out there. I've looked, and nothing quite as good as this.
I read this book a few years ago and recently read it again and I have to say it was so enjoyable. Ms. Vande Velde weaves a very interesting tale of a young girl accused of being a witch. The consequences are devastating and also a surprise is in store. The first book I read of Ms. Vande Velde's was Companions of the Night and I fell in love. I hope to see more of her works soon!
Companions of the Night
I couldn't put the book down! I first read this in highschool and I wanted to reread. I could reread this book over and over. It makes me sad though that there was no continuation.
This delightful adventure deserves a sequel. I would love to follow the two main characters through many more adventures. The character development was well done, the story was a fun twist on a typical fantasy tale. I particularly enjoyed the spunky fifteen year old heroine and her audacity when she taunted the dragon that was supposed to gobble her up. I will be passing this on to my thirteen year old neice because I think that she would enjoy the concept and the characters in this story. I, as an adult, found it very entertaining and though it lacked the depth in world development of a traditional fantasy novel, the tightly written prose carries the reader through to the end with a clear image of the backdrop in which the story takes place. I will be looking for more from this writer in the future.
The story was fast-paced, and the moral of the dangers of seeking revenge was very well illustrated. Also well portrayed was greed and how falsehoods can spread so easily among people--that some people will believe, or allow themselves to be manipulated into believing, just about anything.

The shapeshifting dragon was handled nicely--how Selendrile maintains a stoic demeanor while in Human-form. The transformation that Selendrile makes (and Alys, for that matter) by the end character-wise is clear and believable. I really enjoyed the book.
I remember reading this several times, years ago and it brought back some fond memories. The story is short and the pace really keeps you going. Now, that it has been about 10 years since my last reading, I can see a few plot holes. The end also has a twist I think should have had some sort of foundation set up first. That was also a memory trip, since I flipped a few pages back when I was younger to make sure I didn't miss something. The book would have been longer if all that was explained though, which could have made it harder to keep a young adult's attention, no matter how fun a read it was. I still think there should be a continuation though and would readily scoop it up if Triple V decided to put it out.
