I preferred the first book to this one but this one was good. While the first one began in the United States and ended in Lilaria, this one took place in Lilaria the entire time.
I have to say that I hope that royals could be a quarter humble as these two royals have been.
Cathy is just trying so very hard to be a princess and sometimes just a girl that she gets lost sometimes I think. I can only imagine how difficult a life that would be to be constantly under the microscope. Having to wonder what the other persons intentions are from the very first meeting. Life is hard enough.
I'm glad that Cathy and David found each other. Another perfect example of how perfect opposites can be for each other.
I think I'm finished with this series but it was a breath of fresh air, that's for sure.

I really love Sam and Alex's story Suddenly Royal for a feel good read when I need to read something to make me happy. When I heard that Alex's sister Cathy was getting her own story in Recklessly Royal, it immediately went on my TBR list. While I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one, it was still a good story.
Cathy has lived in the spotlight her whole life, and lately she feels like she is living as 2 different people. First, there is Princess Catherine, the reserved public face she presents most of the time and the person who needs to be conscious of how every action and word can be interpreted. Then there is just Cathy, the woman who used to love to let loose, have fun dancing, loves to watch zombie movies, and is losing hope that she will ever find someone to love the real person she is. Those feelings are only amplified as she puts the finishing touches on planning the wedding of her brother and best friend.
Enter Sam's American friend David who was introduced as Sam's fellow grad student in the wildlife program in Suddenly Royal. Cathy can finally let herself relax for Sam's bachelorette party which leads to a REALLY funny first meeting with David. He is a gorgeous dark haired dark eyed outdoorsy type who immediately catches Cathy's attention like no one else has.
Their story is sweet and slow building as they navigate through the pitfalls of getting to know each other in and out of the public eye with paparazzi hounding them and an unfamiliar personal assistant after a scary event sidelines Cathy's most trusted adviser. For all her worldly experience as a princess, Cathy is still very inexperienced in other ways. David offsets her very nicely and was a willing participant in her education so to speak. ;-) Alex and middle sibling Max have a little brotherly fun with David, particularly since David enjoyed giving Alex a bit of a hard time about Sam when they first met.
I love that we get more Sam and Alex in this story and Recklessly Royal has an epilogue including a little tidbit about them that Suddenly Royal fans won't want to miss. Overall Recklessly Royal was a lovely follow up to Suddenly Royal and I am looking forward to the final book Reluctantly Royal which will be Max's story tentatively due out in August.
*Review first published on Goodreads*
Suddenly Royal was splendid. It was fast-paced, funny, and downright sexy. It's like my comfort book. Something you turn to after going through hell and back again with Kate Quinn's used-to-be-called Rome series, Cassandra Clare's The Infernal Devices series, and the likes. Something sweet, straightforward, and with high levels of sexual tension.
Prior to this, I caught a snippet of Recklessly Royal's sexy time and I was practically slobbering all over my keyboard, wishing for the book to be released. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectation. Yes, it was fast-paced; and I appreciate that I could finish this in one sitting, cos I don't want to spend a day longer reading it. What I did not like about Recklessly Royal is that the interaction between Cathy and David feels like an extended version of '20 Questions'. Or like an 'Interview with Princess Cathy'. It was a total bore! Had I wanted to read an interview, I could just pick up OK! magazine. I feel like these details could have been worked into the plot itself. Ahh, such a waste.
This was my third back-to-back 'Deflowered Virgin' book, mind you. Don't know why I mentioned that..but anyway, one will not mistake this for a fantasy. One perfect 'Prince Charming' is an illusion; two perfect 'Prince Charming' is downright ridiculous.
"Angel, shiny armour just means the knight never went to battle. And I'd fight dragons for you."
Conclusion If you've already read Suddenly Royal, it's not such a bad idea to pick this up.
I was really disappointed with this book after reading SUDDENLY ROYAL. I had been eagerly waiting to read the next story in this series but quickly found the writing to be sub par in book 2.
Major problems First of all, the title didn't go with the story. Then there was the annoyingly forced and useless chit-chat in the entire first half of the book, which was so bad it made the story drag in numerous places. Then there are the non-stop repeated actions (wink, smile, grin, bumping shoulders or knees), as if the writer couldn't think of anything else to write. What happened to the entertaining storytelling style from SUDDENLY ROYAL? And there are so many exclamations in this story, you'd have thought it was written by a different writer or a 12 year old. But the biggest issues for me were the main character often came across as childish, foolish, and overall unlikable, and the hero of the story was shamelessly underdeveloped.
Spoiler the romance only takes place in the second half of the book because the first half is fluffed up with the princess' ailing assistant and her replacement.
My takeaway It's a shame but I think the writer probably only had one good book in her on this subject and the publisher wanted to stretch the SUDDENLY ROYAL success into more books. I'm sorry but I won't be following this series further but wish the writer well with future stories.
Happy reading everyone!
