On Demon Wings Experiment in Terror #5 Karina Halle 9781475079371 Books Reviews

~All I had to do was think about how scared I was and how alone I felt. All I had to do was wish I had someone at my side who would know what was wrong with me and do whatever they could to fix me. I had that once and I didn’t have it anymore. If I thought about that, the tears would never stop coming, so I pushed the thoughts away.~

Ok, this review is gonna be uber quick for no other reason than I am already seriously itching to jump into the next book after that ending, and the only thing standing in my way is this review....

First of all, this has been the most heart-wrenching, scariest, creepiest, most unforgettable installment to the series yet. It's like every movie you've ever seen involving a possession, but instead of watching it from the outside, you're living it through the head of the person going through it all. That was rough. Terrifying. Tense. Uncomfortable. Emotionally damaging.

We pick up a couple of months after the devastating end of 'Lying Season' and see first hand what Dex's betrayal has left in it's wake. Perry is surviving, but barely. Emotionally she is just burying her pain so she doesn't have to deal with the loss of everything her life has become, and it's not always as easy as it may look. But things are about to go from bad to worse when a ghost from the recent past makes Perry the object of their vengeance. And if that's not enough, there appears to be something ever darker lurking in the shadows, waiting to attack, and slowly taking over. How do you fight off what's coming from inside of you when no one believes you, when you start to question even yourself? Watching everything Perry went through was hair raising and painful.

One of the best parts of this book, besides Dex crashing back in to Perry's life, was watching the two sisters become closer than they've ever been their whole lives. Ada is there for Perry when no one else is. She believes in her, never questions her sanity, and is the only one besides Dex willing to do whatever it takes to save her sister. The bond between the sisters grew intensely strong and unbreakable. Maximus, who we met in Red Fox, makes a reappearance. Now, I never really trusted him. He always seemed kinda shady to me, his past with Dex always coloring his motives, but he seemed harmless enough. Lemme just say, this book has done NOTHING to help win me over. I don't wanna say too much, but I will tell you that at this point, the only way I'll be jumping on the Max train is if it's to watch it run him over. Harsh? Maybe. Deserved? You tell me after you've read this book. I'm also seeing Perry's parents in a whole new light and zit's definitely not a good one. They've always been pretty harsh where's Perry is concerned, especially her mother, but after this book I truly loath them. Creepy Clown Lady also comes back on the scene and it's enlightening to say the least.

I realize that I'm rambling quite a bit through what was supposed to be a short review, so I will wrap this up. Be prepared for a harsh, terrifying, emotionally distressing journey. One that will grab you by the throat and refuse to let go. And for those who need to know-yes, there is a cliffhanger. One that will leave you with you're heart in your stomach, scared for the future but NEEDING TO KNOW what comes next.

~I had Dex for a few minutes and even through all the rage I felt, the hurt and humiliation, seeing him had filled me with a resilience I hadn’t felt in a long time. Like I had a fighting chance. Now, he was gone. I had nothing left but questions.~
4.5 Chilling Stars...This was an intense read from start to finish...Perry, attempting to heal from heartbreak, is trying to regain a sense of normalcy in her life, only to experience some bizarre and unexplainable moments that occur both internally and externally of herself...with very little support Perry enters into the battle of her life where it will take every strength she possesses to survive...this addition to the series had my attention from the beginning with it's supernatural occurrences, the heartbreaking love story, and the perseverance of Perry to right her life; it contained all the elements that I desire in a good read...the backstory continues to build answering more questions and explaining the in depth relationship between Perry and Dex....I know there is more to uncover and look forward to the intense journey for these characters to endure in order to finally find their HEA)
Do you know what she did?

Yep, On Demon Wings is reminiscent of The Exorcist and actually fairly creepy. This installment finds Perry possessed by both the vengeful ghost of Abby, Dex’s dead ex. girlfriend; and a demon. Good Times! On a lemonade out of lemons note, Perry does lose all the weight she could possibly want; but as these things typically go, circumstances being what they are – she couldn’t possibly care less.

Perry is back home after her disastrous Seattle trip. She’s quit the show and cut Dex out of her life; which again – circumstances being what they are – was really her only course of action consistent with self-preservation. She’s trying to get on with the business of adulting and has taken a job as a barista at Port Town Coffee with actual hopes and plans to move up to full time and then shift supervisor – with her eye on the ultimate prize of self-sufficiency. Unfortunately, despite her best efforts things aren’t going so well, and that doesn’t just encompass nursing her broken heart. It starts off subtly with feeling sick all the time, headaches, cramps, putrid odors emanating from the restroom at work. Then weird things start happening at home. Doorbells ringing at odd hours. Knocking on Perry’s bedroom door. Shadows flitting under doors. Breathing. It doesn’t take an ex. Experiment in Terror ghost hunter to realize she’s being haunted.

It’s all par for the Perry course; until things get really Cray-Cray! Maximus turns up talking about Shownet plans to have him replace Dex and woo Perry back to EIT. Of course, the ginger gentleman offers to help Perry, who by this point is convinced she’s got a serious Linda Blair affliction going on. Surprisingly, for someone who is supposed to have some degree of supernatural “talents”, Maximus is next to no help and honestly no help would probably have been better. Dex is absent for 70% of the story and only gets called in, in a last-minute Hail Mary by Ada when it becomes clear that not only are Perry’s parents unable/unwilling to help her; but they’re about to have her carted off to the looney bin where the demon can finish eating her soul in peace.

For Dex lovers he does save the day; and he does what is probably considered a decent amount of groveling – if that’s your thing. My thing is more “don’t do it in the first place and then you won’t *need* to grovel” – but to each their own. This installment ends on quite a cliff hanger; but we do find out Crazy Clown Lady’s deal and how everyone is connected Pippa, Dex and Perry. On Demon Wings gets 4 ½ stars because it kept me reading to find out how it would end.
The books just keep getting better and better. Dex to the rescue once again but this time in a bigger way. So much was revealed in this book and things are getting more intense with Perry. Can't wait to read the next one.
