Lani Lynn Vale books always put my emotions on overdrive but I think Law & Beard about killed me. I couldn’t read for days afterward. I think it was because I have wanted Steel’s book for a while now. I wanted to know more about Big Papa and we finally get our wish in Law & Beard. I devoured this one. I just couldn’t nor did I want to, set it down. Steele and Winnie along with Conleigh and Cody, and we can’t forget Sean, will take over your life while you read it. The balance of humor, drama, angst, emotional moments and heart racing ones too, was as always, perfect.

Big Papa, you may be a silver fox but hot $#@! you still have it and you are sexy as #@!!. I wouldn’t mind being cuffed and searched by him. Steel really is a good guy, putting other’s first even at the risk of his own safety. He is the police chief but he is still very much hands on and I liked that about him, he didn’t just sit behind a desk twiddling his thumbs. The way he was with Conleigh and Cody warmed my heart instantly and made me love him even more. I love his relationship with Sean as well, I am glad we got to see more interactions between the two of them.

My heart felt for Winnie, for what her @$$%^&* of an ex-husband and best friend did to her, for her recovery from her spinal stroke, to just trying to be the best parent she could be even when struggling to make ends meet some weeks. Did I at times agree with some of what she would say to Conleigh? No I didn’t and more than once I actually got angry with her, but then I stopped and realized I have said things to my children when I was upset that I didn’t mean but that damage had been done, so now I am going to take more care with my words. Besides that though I think there would not have been a better pick for Steel than Winnie, she balances him out.

I am already wanting another book, whether it be from this series or another one of Lani Lynn Vale’s but I just can’t get enough of her writing. I know when I pick up her book I know I am going to laugh my @$$ off as well as feel my emotions all over the place. Law & Beard was another amazing read from Ms. Vale. I can’t recommend this author or this series enough, her books need to be on your TBR lists immediately.

Lani Lynn Vale’s writing, characters and fictional worlds are definitely a comfort for me. I easily get lost in her stories, and I can envision the places and people so readily. But of all of Vale’s many series, the Dixie Warden Rejects series has become one of my favorites of hers. I’ve been anxiously awaiting Big Papa’s story since she introduced this character, and his story was totally worth the wait. She brought the feels, the fire and the funny in Law & Beard, and it’s not only my favorite story of the series, but it’s landed on my short list for one of this year’s top favorite reads.

Big Papa was absolutely everything I love about a silver fox. He was confident and commanding without being domineering. A strong, steady and patient presence in Winnie and her kids’ lives, he was also caring, loyal and so very sexy. I loved the way he was with Winnie’s kids, especially her daughter, Conleigh. It was impossible not for me to root for Winnie right from the start. Strong in her own right, this resilient single mother was the perfect heroine for this man. There was plenty of suspenseful drama, and Vale effortlessly blends that with her trademark brand of humor, some alpha man romance and a fair amount of heat into Steel and Winnie’s beautiful love story.

Law & Beard was the perfect cap off to what was a riveting, exciting and sexy series about every day heroes and the women who love them. As much as I’ve loved this story, and all the stories that preceded it, I’m just as distraught that this marks the finale for this fantastic series. The story felt rushed and wasn't put together as well as it could have been. And I'm sorry if the rapist I put away started stalking me the first thing I would have done would have been to go home and tell my 16 year old daughter who to look out for. I would have shown not only his picture to her but to my friends as well... I would have reminded my son to stay away from strangers...I mean come on, he followed her to another state and I get she didn't realize it was him at first but after he showed up at her work she should have made it known who and what he was to all of her loved ones! Also this whole everyone loves Matt thing is just dumb...we are never given a real reason why eveyone is supposed to be in love with this guy...I feel like he is tossed in the book here and there just so we don't forget about him.... then there is the whole thing with Matt having a mouth phobia ... it was beyond dumb....I mean a baby yawned in his face and he basically throws him yet he just magically got over it so he could cheat on Winnie??? Nope...stupid... And what was up with the whole bullet proof vest thing??? Winnie made a big deal about Christmas yet we never saw it happen..Steel had a Birthday but no one celebrated it... he wore the leather jacket she bought him for his birthday at the end of the book...uh what birthday?? I could go on but I'll stop... I wanted to like this book but I was highly disappointed... I generally like Lani's books even though many have flaws or don't flow as well as they should but this one needed someone tho read it before she published it and if someone did read it and it was the same person/people as her other books I seriously recommend that she gets fresh eyes... and no the age difference did not bother me at all.
